Why peri urban Victoria matters

Central to Victoria’s growth story.

Peri Urban Councils Victoria represents five councils on the edge of metropolitan Melbourne and Geelong. Our communities are helping deliver housing, jobs and regional liveability. Enabling infrastructure, public transport and digital connectivity must keep pace.

Practical investment will support local economies, tourism and food production, while protecting the liveability of towns and rural and coastal communities.

What PUCV is asking

Four priorities. Practical investment.

The following are PUCV’s advocacy asks. Funding sought is separate from political party election commitments.

01Unlocking housing supply

Housing and enabling infrastructure

The challenge

Bring forward roads, drainage, wetlands, community hubs and other catalyst infrastructure that unlocks housing supply.

Our ask

Establish a Peri Urban DCP Future Fund

Approximately $86 million

Bring forward planned infrastructure and unlock an initial project pipeline of approximately $86 million.

Timely enabling infrastructure helps councils support new homes and growing communities.

02Supporting everyday life

Community and liveability

The challenge

Invest early in sport, recreation, aquatic, leisure and community facilities so liveability keeps pace with growth.

Our ask

Establish a Peri Urban Capital Investment Fund

$230 million

Deliver critical community and liveability projects outside existing funding mechanisms.

Growing communities need places to come together, stay active and access community services.

03Keeping communities connected

Digital connectivity

The challenge

Address mobile coverage gaps, grey spots, peak tourism demand, network reliability and emergency resilience.

Our ask

Treat digital connectivity as essential infrastructure

Continue targeted peri urban mobile coverage investment to improve reliable connections for residents, businesses and visitors.

Reliable connectivity supports local economies and helps communities stay connected during emergencies.

04Better access and travel choices

Public transport

The challenge

Improve limited, infrequent and poorly connected services that reduce access to jobs, education, services and tourism destinations.

Our ask

Back practical public transport improvements

Support bus service uplift, local and cross-town networks, accessible stops and network planning for growing peri urban communities.

Better services give communities more practical ways to reach work, study and everyday destinations.
