Peri Urban Councils Victoria welcomes new leadership team

PUCV Chair Cr Michael Leaney, Deputy Mayor of Baw Baw Shire  Council

Peri Urban Councils Victoria (PUCV) has welcomed a new leadership team for 2023 with the election of a new Chair and Deputy-Chair.

Cr Michael Leaney, Deputy Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Council was elected as Chair with Cr Moira Berry, Councillor of Moorabool Shire Council taking up the role of Deputy Chair.

PUCV Chair Cr Leaney said “The peri urban region surrounding Melbourne and Geelong are some of the fastest growing in the country.”

“PUCV works together as one united voice to ensure the fast-growing fringe receives the funding and attention the region deserves” Cr Leaney explained.

Cr Leaney takes over from Cr Moira Berry, Councillor of Moorabool Shire Council who chaired PUCV over the course of a busy 5 months.

Cr Leaney thanked Cr Berry for her dedication to the region saying “Cr Berry’s leadership has been integral in raising awareness on our region’s issues, and I would like to thank her for her efforts.”

Cr Leaney and Cr Berry were also joined on the Board by representatives from the following member
councils:

  • Golden Plains Shire Council;

  • Surf Coast Shire Council;

  • Bass Coast Shire Council;

  • Moorabool Shire Council; and

  • Baw Baw Shire Council.

“As Chair, I will be advocating that the peri urban region requires strategic investment in connectivity, placemaking, tourism and transport” Cr Leaney declared.
