State delegation overview

Peri Urban Councils Victoria has enjoyed consistent and productive engagement with its State Government partners so far this year.

PUCV Chair Cr Moira Berry led a delegation to Spring Street in March and returned for additional meetings in the weeks afterwards. Meetings were held with:

  • The Hon Sonya Kilkenny MP, Attorney General and Minister for Planning;

  • The Hon Michaela Settle MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria and Community Sport, and Member for Eureka;

  • Mr Danny O’Brien MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the National Party, Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, and Shadow Minister for Regional Development and Liveability; 

  • Mr Richard Riordan MP, Shadow Minister for Planning, Shadow Minister for Housing, and Member for Polworth;

  • Mrs Bev McArthur MP, Shadow Minister for Local Government;

  • Mr Wayne Farnham MP, Shadow Assistant Minister to the Leader of the Opposition, Shadow Assistant Minister for Planning and Building and Member for Narracan;

  • Office of the Hon Jaclyn Symes MP, Treasurer and Minister for Regional Development; and

  • Officers from Local Government Victoria within the Department of Government Services.

These meetings provided an opportunity to discuss the unique challenges facing peri urban municipalities, including the high demand for housing. The delegation also requested government and shadow ministers:

  • review and consider the PUCV Future Fund proposal to deliver needed infrastructure; and

  • support peri urban recognition in state policy and funding.
