Canberra Roundtable
PUCV Chair Cr Moira Berry was in Canberra at the end of June to host a roundtable meeting of Peri Urban councils from around Australia.
The meeting was organised by PUCV to discuss:
development of a Memorandum of Understanding on peri urban issues between the attendees; and
opportunities for collaboration in federal advocacy on areas of shared concern.
Discussion also focused on the high demand for housing in the nation’s rapidly growing peri urban areas.
Those present looked at ways our peri urban municipalities could work together to create a stronger, united voice to advocate for what our communities need to grow and prosper.
Our municipalities want to be part of the solution to the housing crisis, while also ensuring our growth is sustainable, and protecting agricultural land and the character of our townships. More on the outcomes of this roundtable will be available in our next newsletter.
While in the Nation’s capital, Cr Berry joined hundreds of other local government leaders from around Australia for the Australian Local Government Association’s National General Assembly.
